About Me

My photo
Everett Dixon
Everett Dixon is a theatre director, who studied at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow and was a founding member of the Peter Fomenko Studio Theatre. In 1999, he relocated to Colombia, and in 2002, he was granted tenure at the Universidad del Valle, in Cali, where he has staged over two dozen productions. Trained as a translator before entering the theatre (1986-89), he founded the Four Worlds Theatre Research Group in 2008, dedicated to translating and staging contemporary classic plays, often of post-colonial or afrodiasporic playwrights unknown in the Spanish-speaking world. With this group he has staged a number of successful play productions which have had an important impact on the theatre in Colombia. In 2007, he co-founded the Bogota company Anhelo del Salmón, where he works as a guest director, and whose production of Waiting for Godot has been a seminal event in the Colombian theatre, in repertory for the last ten years. He obtained his doctorate in Theatre Studies from York University in 2013, for his dissertation on theatre director Lloyd Richards. In 2018 he published his book on theatre pedagogy, The Courage not to Carry On.
